Try pond dipping during the summer holidays

‘I think we’ve got some interesting creatures in here,’ Ladybird told me on our pond dipping trip after we’d swept the fishing net slowly back and forth, just like we’d been shown, and drawn it up slowly from the murky pond.

I could see some pond weed stuck fast to the bottom, but I’m not convinced we’ve snared much else. We took the dripping net back to our table and carefully emptied the weed into a tray.
