Setting up a Google + Page

24 March

In three weeks time Google will be making a presentation on Google + at Save The Children’s ‘Creating Connections – A Blogging and Vlogging Conference 2012′, a presentation which will chart Love All Blogs journey in the first few weeks of using G+.

This week we created a business page. Some of of the benefits we have found of having a business page are:

  • Being able to use our Love All Blogs name. If you are a blogger at the moment with a personal Google + page you’ll be aware of the limitations on what you are allowed to call yourself – it should be a proper name. If you set up a personal profile using your blog name the chances are at some point Google will remove it.
  • You can set up a Google + Page to have more than one ‘manager’ so if you are part of a collaborative blog or website it means that more than just one person can manage it.
  • As a business page it will flag up in a Google search engine.
  • You can only add people to your circles if they ‘follow you’ first. This is a great way of preventing some of the spammy followings that you find some businesses doing on Twitter.

I set up our Love All Blogs Page from my personal page. In the right hand sidebar on your Google + home page  you’ll see an option to ‘Create a Google + Page’. If you click on that it walk you through the process.

The main hurdle is getting your page ‘out there’, because at present if you want to be able to connect with people you need them to follow you first. Google offer a badge for you to display on your site for this and I have found spreading the word via other social media sites really beneficial too.
