If children are meant to have no screen time before they are two, I’m a terrible mother. My 22-month-old knows the programme schedule on the kids channel by heart and my four-month-old will quite happily zone out if that box with the flickering pictures is on in the corner.
I’m not quite sure how it got this bad, but I know I didn’t mean it to be this way.
I lived without a television for eight years before having Milin. I never missed it. And then, in the week before he was born, I decided we needed one. I’d heard so much about the hours you spent awake in the middle of the night in front of the TV, that I put a flat screen on my shopping list between the muslin cloths and mattress protector.
