Some of my happiest days have been working with the youngest children, the three to five-year olds, in what I still call the nursery, although the schools insist on calling it Foundation Stage. I was quite nervous on my first morning. I arrived about 10 minutes before the children to meet the staff and then I sat wondering what I’d let myself in for. Would the kids all be running around, screaming and shouting, and all demanding my attention at once? Would this be the closest thing I would experience to Hell on Earth?
