On Thursday I sat down to read the paper’s and to my initial delight there was a story on page 2 of The Times talking about how a fashion retailer had embraced plus size models and created a new range for them. Fantastic a high street retailer realising that women want to be able to look fashionable and feel comfortable no matter what size they are.
But then I read a little further. Their plus size range starts at a size 12. I’m a size 12 so does this now mean I need to be worrying about my size? Reading more into the article the average size of a female in the UK has risen from a size 12 to a size 16 so in my mind that therefore means plus size ranges should start from size 16.
I think it is great that we are recognising the fact that not all women are stick thin but I feel that including size 12 in a plus range will make a lot of women question their weight and size and add even more stress and anxiety on them. I must admit it made me think, am I really that big!
