So some headmaster of a private school has suggested that the rich should pay if their kids go to a good state school. Now while I agree with him that in many areas of the country access to a decent state school is governed by whether you can afford the house prices in that area, I can't agree with his solution. The whole point of state education is that it is free and available for all. I absolutely agree that we need better social mobility and access to good schooling is part of that, but I cannot agree that making some parents pay is the answer. For lots of reasons.
Firstly, I am a huge believer in the fundamental principle of free education, no exclusions. In fact I could just type END OF, and wander off, but that would make for a short post, so I shall witter some more, but this is the most important point!
