Petition ASA to condemn Paddy Power Pistorius trial ‘money-back if he walks’ advertising campaign
I wrote the below post – The Killing: Reeva Steenkamp and ending the war on women - during the bail hearing for Oscar Pistorius for the killing of Reeva Steenkamp. In the post I talk about this case highlighting the world-wide continuing war on women.
Fast-forward to day one of the trial of Oscar Pistorius and I was appalled to hear about the Paddy Power ‘your money back if he walks’ advertising campaign that broke in line with the start of the trial. I immediately signed the Change.org petition to have Paddy Power pull the campaign.
At the time of writing this post over 116,000 people had signed the petition calling on Paddy Power to remove its betting on the Oscar Pistorius trial and it was one of the top items on BBC Trending today.
Due to the massive support for the petition, Patrick Kennedy, Paddy Power CEO, was forced onto national radio to defend his abhorrent betting offer and callous advert. But he refused to apologise for running the bet.
