My 40th – that milestone birthday dreaded by so many – has been less about lamenting the passing of the years and more an opportunity to look to the future and what is to come. It’s exciting stuff – my bakehouse is growing, exciting plans are afoot which will allow me to consolidate and continue my baking journey. Inevitably, other things will happen which will take me by surprise, and I hope I will be able to use my experiences amassed over the course of the past 40 years to embrace any curved balls that may come my way. Time will tell!
In the last few months, I’ve used the approach of this birthday to take stock, make plans and have a general clear out of clutter. And it is with this in mind, that I wanted to face one of my fears: an ever present fear for the artisan baker. What if I lost my sourdough starter?
