"I can't do it."
"Honestly, I think I'm going to have to get off."
"Let me get off. Now!"
Those were my panic-stricken cries, as I swung between the trees at The Forest Adventure Park in Le Vendee, France, earlier this year. Think Go Ape but on a much grander scale; in fact an entire forest full of those rope bridges, swinging trapezes and 300 ft (artistic exaggeration allowed) zip wires over freshwater lakes.
Seriously, what was I thinking? I'm scared of heights for goodness sake!
There were two things that kept me going throughout this whole ordeal: firstly, that I couldn't let my children down (or lose face in front of the adults we were with!); and my friend's encouraging words:"Come on, you can do it, you're doing brilliantly" "Can you imagine our mums ever doing this?!"
And then I began to laugh, because she was right, there's no way in the world that my Mum would have done anything like that and I should be proud of myself for even having a go in the first place.
