Hornsea: the seaside vintage style

The closing of the railway has served as a sort of formaldehyde for Hornsea, preserving its 1950s feel. On the seafront are the paradigmatic boarding houses; imposing Victorian fronts, tall and narrow to maximise the beautiful views. The air is filled with the screech of gulls, the peal of the amusement arcades and the thick clagging smell of fish and chips. Oh, fish and chips. I can think of nothing more quaintly eccentrically perfectly British than sitting on a cold bench tucking into a huge, stingingly hot portion of vinegar saturated fish and chips, the greasy paper warming chilled hands.
