Hitting the road, for Jack

Hitting the road, for Jack

John, 67, is getting on his bike to raise money for the hospital which cared for his sick grandson. Baby Jack was born last September with a heart defect which meant he had to undergo surgery at 4 days old. Although the operation went well, this beautiful little boy passed away in early November. Now Jack's family are doing all they can to support Glasgow's Yorkhill Hospital, in return for the care given at such a heartbreaking time. Grandad John's contribution is to raise cash by completing the 9 islands cycle challenge - covering 150 miles around the Outer Hebrides, starting from Barra and ending up in Stornoway, on the isle of Lewis. John is setting off on Sunday (September 1st) and is hoping people will get behind him by pledging even £1 in support of his journey. John, a retired sales manager, and Liz were over the moon when their youngest daughter Alison announced she was expecting her first baby last year. But a problem was detected when Alison was 28 weeks into her pregnancy. She and husband Stuart Garioch had decided to have a 3D scan to see the baby more clearly. He had hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
