Guest Post: St Nic and Santa Crafts from Maggy Woodley of Red Ted Art

It is so nice to be visiting here today and to talk about good old St Nic! For most of us St Nic of course is St Nicolas or Father Christmas or Santa Clause, who comes on during the night and fills our Christmas stocking ready for Christmas Day! However, some of continental Europeans also celebrate Sankt Nikolaus – I believe (!) that he is the original Father Christmas. Sankt Nikolaus was a bishop (hence the red hat!) who was very kind and generous. In Winter he would give food and money to the poor (a very simple summary of his life). The tradition in Austria and Germany, is for children to put out their well polished boots or shoes one the eve of December the 5th.. and if (!) he has been good, Sankt Nikolaus will come and leave you some chocolate coins, some nuts and dried fruit.
