First time voter

First time voter

My baby has just turned 18, a big milestone for many reasons. She can go to the pub and buy a pint, she can get married, join the army and donate organs all without my permission but most importantly she is a first time voter!

She has a hand in the future of parliament and has her say on the running of the country.

We have had birthday cards from our local MP, advertising from some of the parties wanting to win her vote – I have to say they have mostly been thrown in the bin or returned un opened. It appears she is not a fan of the current administration or their bed fellows – I’m not surprised to be honest!

The press tells us that the youth of today are disinterested in politics, disenfranchised by the powers that be and apathetic about the whole process. Are they though, or is it because everyone keeps telling them they are?
