Craufurdland Castle, Kilmarnock

Craufurdland Castle, Kilmarnock

My mum has long had a love affair with Scotland and for her birthday in February it was organised that we all spend a weekend in Craufurdland Castle as part of the celebrations.

Craufurdland Castle has been home to the Craufurds of Craufurdland since 1245 and sits on a vast country estate. Along with the castle the estate also houses a fishery, dog boarding facilities, a cafe, cycling trails, muddy trial events, burial grounds and acres of unspoiled land. Simon and Adity Houison Craufurd and their two daughters own and run the property, and live in the Laird’s House next door to the main castle accommodation.

We arrived on the Friday after Easter and were welcomed by Adity who gave us a tour of the castle and a bit of history behind the rooms. The castle is self-catering and the best stocked self-catering place I’ve ever been to.
