Book review - The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka

This is the first month that I have joined in with the Britmums Book Club, and I think that I chose an excellent month to begin! This month we are reading The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka. The book follows the many and varied stories of a group of Japanese women that travel to America to marry between the wars. I don't have the opportunity to read as much as I would like, and so when I do have a book to read I want it to be worth it. When The Buddha in the Attic arrived in the post, I must admit that I was quite relieved to see that it was a slim novel, and I opened it straightaway. As soon as I started reading I began to wish that it was longer. I was caught up in the poetic narrative immediately, the children fading into the background. If I'd had the chance, I would have read the entire book in one go. As it is I'm quite glad that it took me several days to read it, as it allowed me to savour every word.
