A bit of history to kick off today’s post.

Let’s wind back the clock for a moment, to Spain in AD304. The emperor is Diocletian.

Christian persecutions have reached critical heights under his tyrannical rule and we find the bishop of Saragossa, Valerius, and his deacon, Vincent, incarcerated in Valencia.

Legend has it that whilst Valerius is exiled, a different fate awaits Vincent. He is tortured, made to lie on a bed of broken bottles.
