Autumn Adventure Telly switched off, kids moan Dad’s glued to his phone Mum fetches coats and hoods Time for adventure in the woods Car’s icy, first time this year Windscreen takes an age to clear Wood’s deserted, nearly dark Maybe we should’ve gone to the park... Mist and fog, it’s a spooky scene ‘Come on, at least the dogs are keen’ Wellies squelsh, puddles splash Sticks are thrown, dogs dash Parents shelter from the breeze Children build a den in the trees Kick the leaves, make a mud pie Dodge grey clouds filling the sky Search for chestnuts on the forest floor Run for the car when it starts to pour Son’s wet through, skinned his knee Lost a mitten up a tree
