Many years ago le Tour de France travelled through England in its fourth and fifth stages. The fourth stage rang from Dover to Brighton and the fifth around the Portsmouth area. The Tour came as close to our village as a ten minute drive away. Back then I didn’t understand the significance of the event; now I wish I’d gone to see it.
