How do I install a plugin?

Question: Hi Sian. I’m wanting to add a plug-in that will allow me to show ‘Featured Posts’ on a page of my self hosted WP site. I think I’ve found one that’ll do the job but haven’t ever actually installed a plug-in before and when I click download it’s put lots of files in my Download folder but I don’t know what to do next! I suspect it’s not a simple ‘do this’ 1 step answer for such a numptie like me – any tips about where to get some free step by step idiot help?! from Scribbling Mum.

Answer:

1. Download your plug in

2. In your dashboard go to Plugins – Add New

3. Click the ‘Add New’ grey box at the top, then select Upload

4. Choose the file and click Install Now

5. Activate the plugin on the next screen and you are done!
