‘A virus is what people who can’t spell pneumonia get.’ Eric Morecambe
There are few things that remind me more of the festive season than the Morecambe and Wise Christmas Special. Screened on Christmas Day (with the exception of 1974) it was a notable highlight of my childhood in the 1970′s and beyond.
Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise, for any of you lovely readers who are young enough not to remember them, were a British comic double act who performed together in variety, radio, film and television from 1941 until Eric’s untimely death in 1984.
Traditionally at the end of each television show, they would perform a peculiar skipping dance to Bring Me Sunshine together until Eric’s heart condition prevented him from dancing. Ernie would then perform the routine alone or sometimes with a guest, whilst Eric dressed in a brown mac and carrying a paper bag would walk across the stage, supposedly on his way to catch the bus.
