I hadn’t heard of this book until my Mum bought it for my son Harry. First published in 1956, it’s a simple story about a dog that refuses to have a bath, and runs away. He spends the day getting so dirty, than when he returns home he has changed “from a white dog with black spots, to a black dog with white spots”. Luckily the family take pity on the dirty dog that has arrived in their house, and after giving him a bath they recognise their Harry.
