12-03-12 Love Fitness Weekly Showcase

12 March

I’m proud to hand this week’s Fitness Showcase intro over to my lovely niece. She is a gorgeous little bundle of energy. Here is what she has to say about keeping fit…

I love to keep fit and stay healthy, i do lots of sports including Gymnastics, Cheerleading, Handball, Touch Rugby, volleyball, basketball and lots more. I love taking part in all these sports because i enjoy doing them and i get better every week because i always try my best and all my coaches push me to doing things that are more professional than what i can already do. Cheerleading is a hard sport as are all my other sports. For cheerleading and Gymnastics i have to warm up and when i warm up i try my best even though i am only warming up but for these type of sports you need to try your best when you warm up and perform. For Volleyball, Basketball and handball you need to have strength and a grip of the ball. My favourite sport is Gymnastics because i can do lots of tumbling and if i get amazingly good I could (or my team could) maybe go to the olympics. Every Monday I go to a club at school called Olympic Ball sports, we play a sport that has a ball in it and is in the olympics and that makes Olympic ball sports! I think i will stick to these sports for a long time!

Housegoeshome- Expiry date

Expiry date

My astronomically expensive one-month gym membership expires on Monday. Should I stay or should I go? If I join for 12 months, it will cost me less than a quarter of the cleaner’s bill each week. Isn’t getting myself in order as important as getting the house in order?

J.R. Barker- Yoga for Bookworms

Just found out that twisting yourself into painful positions for relaxation purposes can actually be quite damaging… who knew?
Perhaps I’ll just drink more water and get out for a walk once in a while instead.
Apparently you need to be fairly physically fit and medically sound for most yoga positions. It seems a bit strange that you might have to go into training just to get fit enough to do some exercise.
Apparently there are many yoga classes where the instructors are too rough. Jumping up and down on people to get them into position.

You’re not from round here.- Exercise update

I thought I’d give you a very quick exercise update. Since I first posted about my weight loss challenge, I have lost over 5kg or 11lbs. I haven’t changed my diet and I am only in the gym once a week. I try to also go swimming once a week, but through being at university I am also walking loads more.

However, last week I encountered an unexpected high heel knee injury (I shouldn’t be allowed to wear them), so I didn’t go to the gym.
